There Goes a Tractor [VHS]

Dave Hood created the There Goes a… series to show off the vehicles and jobs children tend to be fascinated with. As the host, he balanced information with slapstick antics, but always respected the people who perform the job as well as the kids watching the video. In There Goes a Tractor, Dave Sidoni takes over as host and he’s not nearly as good, too often indulging in a “golly gee” tone of vo…

Very popular ignition switch used on my brands of older lawn equipment. 5 spade terminal for magneto ignition, 3 position switch, requires 5/8″ mounting hole.

Check the terminal locations on the old switch against the terminal layout on the photo. Look for terminal designation on the flat part that the terminals come out of, not the letter stamped on the spade. M = magneto, B = battery, S = star…

8n Ford Tractor Parts and the Ferguson System

Many farmers may be familiar with the history of the Ferguson three point hitch system that allowed different implements to be hooked onto tractors. The Ford N Series tractors first featured the Ferguson System in 1939, with the introduction of the 9N tractor. The 9N Ford tractor was replaced in 1941 by the 2N, which also featured the Ferguson Systems. In 1947, the 8N Ford Tractor emerged with the newest features of previous models, and Ford dropped the name Ferguson on the hitch, even though they continued to use it. This resulted in a settlement to Ferguson of 10 million in the resulting lawsuit.

Other differences in the 8N Ford Tractor was that the six lugs on the rear wheels went to eight lugs and the “Ford” logo was affixed to the hood and fenders. Another difference was the paint jobs, which was Ford medium grey on the 9N and 2N tractors, but became Ford medium grey fenders and hood, with Vermillion Red body castings on the 8N Ford Tractor. The 8N was produced until 1952, making it an antique tractor that is popular among collectors. Finding 8N Ford Tractor parts is easier than some other models of antique tractor parts.

Another major difference between the 8N and the other models was the addition of the Dearborn implements, which gave farmers a vast amount of implements to choose from, which went from 14 to 25 different attachments that could be hitched to the versatile 8N Ford tractors, which made them more capable than previous models.

Since these were a popular farm tractor, they have also become a popular collector tractor. You will probably find more 8N Ford Tractors in the antique collector’s tractors than any other Ford tractor, although previous models would be worth considerably more, from a sentimental standpoint.

If you are an avid Ford Tractor fan, nothing beats finding an 8N Ford tractor that needs restored. These versatile tractors were built Ford-tough and finding a few 8N Ford tractor parts may all you need to get them in running and showing condition. You can even buy the Ford Vermillion Red and Medium Gray Paint on the Internet and restore them to original condition quite easily.

To best identify your Ford tractor, the serial number will start with the model so if you can read it, you should find 8N12345, for example. Since a lot of Ford tractor parts are interchangeable, you could have a hybrid, so the serial number is the best identifying brand, other than the lug pattern, which will be the 8 lug pattern that occurred with the model change from 2N to 8N. It is possible for an 8N tractor to have 9N engines and vice versa, so you may have to use both markers to determine the actual model and what 8N Ford Tractor parts you actually need.

This means it’s important to determine you actually have an 8N engine, even though the body chassis is. On the other hand, just because you have an 8N engine doesn’t mean you have an 8N tractor. This distinction makes a difference depending on the exact 8N Ford Tractor parts you are looking for, but you can find them easily on the Internet.
