Lawn mower shooting black smoke out muffler?
I have a briggs & scranton john deere js61. Actually its my parents lawn mower but I’m trying to fix it for them. About a month ago it wouldn’t start so I changed the spark plug and it worked fine again. The other day my mom got half the lawn done before it shot black smoke out the muffler and stalled and died. It would not start for the rest of that day and the next day it would start but ran rough and continued shooting out the smoke. I changed the air filter, checked as best I could for clogs in the airway, and changed the oil. Its still running the same rough way. Im wondering next do I clean the carburetor or anyone got any other suggestions?

Forgot to add that when I just pulled the month old spark plug out it was already black on the end. I cleaned it and put it back in again.
it’s running too rich,
add a few tablespoons of seafoam in the tank,
next on the carb there’s a main adjust screw turn it all the way in till lightly seated, then back out1-1/4 turn. start it up let it run for 10 mins or so till its up to temp then screw that screw back in till it wants to stall then backout till it runs smooth
